350 Sq Ft Studio Apartment Layouts: What 50 More Square Feet Buys
Short answer
Fits A 350 sq ft studio fits a queen bed, a full 84″ sofa with a coffee table, a 48″ desk, a dresser and a 30″ dining table with 30″ walkways, in a square, standard or long room. At 300 sq ft, the same set needs 24″ paths in a square or long room and doesn’t fit a standard one. The extra 50 sq ft is what makes room for the dining table and the bigger sofa.

What 50 more square feet changes
Take 40 sq ft off for the bathroom and 310 sq ft is left, against 260 sq ft in a 300 sq ft studio. We ran four furniture sets through the Studio Solver at both sizes, in three room shapes, all with 30″ walkways.
| Furniture | Square 17′7″ × 17′7″ | Standard 15′9″ × 19′8″ | Long 13′11″ × 22′3″ |

With 36″ walkways, every set still gets 3 layouts in every shape at 350 sq ft, except the 84″ sofa with both sides of the bed open in the standard room, where the solver finds 1.
3 layouts for a 350 sq ft studio, one per shape
Each room has a 32″ entrance door and a 30″ bathroom door on the bottom wall, a 60″ window centered on the top wall, and a one-wall kitchen on the right. Each holds a queen, an 84″ sofa with a 48 × 24″ coffee table, a 48″ desk, a 32″ dresser and a 30″ dining table, and passes every check at standard clearances. Hatched areas are the clear space each check needs.
Layout A: Square room, dining by the window
All checks pass
The bed takes the top-left corner with its head on the left wall. The dining table sits on the top wall at the right end of the window, and the dresser and desk line the right wall above the kitchen counter. The sofa backs onto the bottom wall between the two doors, facing into the room, with the coffee table 16″ in front. The bed is 9′ 6″ from the entrance door swing.
Best for: eating by the window, at the far end of the room from the front door.
The trade-off: the desk faces the right wall, 5′ 5″ from the window, squeezed between the dresser and the kitchen counter.
Layout B: Standard room, floating sofa
All checks pass
The bed takes the top-left corner with its head on the left wall, and the desk sits right beside the window. The sofa floats 2′ 6″ off the left wall with a walkway behind it, facing the coffee table 16″ away. The dresser is on the right wall just above the kitchen counter, and the dining table is on the bottom wall between the two doors. The bed is 11′ 7″ from the entrance door swing.
Best for: a sitting area in the middle of the room that you can walk all the way around.
The trade-off: the sofa faces the kitchen counter, 8′ 0″ away, and you eat right by the front door.
Layout C: Long room, everything against the walls
All checks pass
The bed takes the top-right corner with its head on the right wall, and the desk sits in the top-left corner beside the window. The dining table and the sofa line the left wall, with the coffee table 16″ in front of the sofa. The dresser stands on the bottom wall between the two doors. The bed is 14′ 6″ from the entrance door swing, the farthest of the three plans.
Best for: keeping the bed far from the front door, with the whole left wall for eating and sitting.
The trade-off: the dresser is by the front door, 15′ 3″ from the bed.

The 34″ in front of a dresser is a 16″ open drawer plus 18″ to stand. The space to pull out a chair or open a drawer has to stay out of every door swing too. Unless the table says otherwise, only one side of the bed needs to be open.
Measure this first
- The main room wall to wall in two places, not counting the bathroom. A studio listed at 350 sq ft may count the bathroom and closets, so measure the room you will furnish.
- The kitchen counter: its length, its depth, and how far it sits from each corner.
- Both doors: width, which wall they are on, and which way they swing.
- The window: width and how far it is from the nearest corner.
- Your bed frame and sofa at their outside edges, including arms and headboard.
Questions people ask
How big is a 350 sq ft studio?
After a 40 sq ft bathroom, the 310 sq ft main room is about 17′ 7″ × 17′ 7″ if square, 15′ 9″ × 19′ 8″ in a standard shape (length 1.25 × width) and 13′ 11″ × 22′ 3″ if long (length 1.6 × width). For the standard shape: width = √(310 ÷ 1.25) = 15.75 ft, and length = 15.75 × 1.25 = 19.69 ft.
Is 350 sq ft small for a studio?
It is the smallest of our sizes where every set we test fits in every room shape with 30″ walkways: a queen, an 84″ sofa, a coffee table, a desk, a dresser and a 30″ dining table. At 300 sq ft, these sets pass with 30″ walkways only in a square room, and only with the 68″ sofa.
Can you fit a queen bed and a full-size sofa in 350 sq ft?
Yes. A 64 × 84″ queen and an 84″ sofa fit with a coffee table, a desk, a dresser and a dining table, with 3 layouts in every shape at 30″ walkways. At 300 sq ft the same set needs 24″ paths, and the standard shape can’t take it at all.
Can both sides of a queen bed stay open in 350 sq ft?
Yes, even with the 84″ sofa and the dining table: 3 layouts in every shape with 30″ walkways. With 36″ walkways the square and long rooms still get 3 and the standard room gets 1.
Where should the dining table go in a 350 sq ft studio?
Against a wall, with 32″ at each end for a chair and both ends clear of the door swings. The three plans above use three spots: the window wall in the square room, the entrance wall between the doors in the standard room, and the long left wall in the long room.
