200 Sq Ft Studio Apartment Layouts: Pick the Bed First
Short answer
Fits A 200 sq ft studio fits a queen bed with a 48″ desk and a dresser, with 30″ walkways, as long as the room is square or close to it. A loveseat needs a twin bed. In a long, 10′-wide room, a twin is the only bed that fits at all.

What fits in 200 sq ft, by bed and room shape
Take 40 sq ft off for the bathroom and 160 sq ft is left for sleeping, sitting and the kitchen. We ran eight furniture sets through the Studio Solver in three room shapes, all with 30″ walkways. At this size the bed decides almost everything.
| Furniture | Square 12′8″ × 12′8″ | Standard 11′4″ × 14′2″ | Long 10′0″ × 16′0″ |

| Queen, loveseat | Doesn’t fit | Doesn’t fit | Doesn’t fit |
| Twin, desk, 30″ dining table | 24″ paths only | Doesn’t fit | Doesn’t fit |
In the long room, even a full or queen bed on its own fails at every clearance level, so a twin is the only choice there. A coffee table doesn’t fit even with a twin and a loveseat, in any shape, with 24″ paths or wider.
3 layouts for a 200 sq ft studio
Each room has a 32″ entrance door and a 30″ bathroom door on the bottom wall, a 60″ window centered on the top wall, and a 72″ kitchen counter on the right wall. Each plan passes every check at standard clearances, and the solver finds exactly one arrangement for each set. Hatched areas are the clear space each check needs.
Layout A: Queen bed, desk and dresser
All checks pass
The queen takes the top-left corner with its head on the top wall. The desk sits on the right wall beside the window, right where the kitchen counter ends, and the dresser fits on the bottom wall between the two doors. There is 46″ between the bed and the desk, and the bed is 4′ 5″ from the entrance door swing.
Best for: the biggest bed this size allows, with a real place to work.
The trade-off: there is no seat except the bed and the desk chair, and the bed is the closest to the front door of the three plans.
Layout B: Twin bed with a loveseat and desk
All checks pass
The twin runs along the top wall under the window, with its head on the left wall. The loveseat floats 3′ 1″ off the bottom wall and faces the bed, 4′ 8″ away. The desk sits on the right wall beside the window, just above the kitchen counter. The bed is 7′ 11″ from the entrance door swing.
Best for: a seat that isn’t the bed, plus a desk.
The trade-off: the entrance door opens into the walkway behind the loveseat, and there is no dresser. Add one and nothing passes in this room, even with 24″ paths.
Layout C: Long room: twin, loveseat and dresser
All checks pass
The twin takes the top-left corner with its head on the top wall. The loveseat sits against the right wall at the window end, facing the bed 3′ 6″ away, with the kitchen counter just below it. The dresser is on the left wall, 6′ 4″ across from the counter. The bed is 6′ 8″ from the entrance door swing.
Best for: a long, narrow studio, with a sitting corner by the window.
The trade-off: the aisle between the dresser and the counter has no inch to spare: 34″ for the drawers plus the 42″ kitchen work space is exactly 6′ 4″.

Walking route from the door
The 34″ in front of a dresser is a 16″ open drawer plus 18″ to stand. The space to pull out a chair or open a drawer has to stay out of every door swing too. Only one side of the bed needs to be open.
Measure this first
- The main room wall to wall in two places, not counting the bathroom. At 200 sq ft, the width decides which bed fits.
- The kitchen counter: its length, its depth, and how far it sits from each corner.
- Both doors: width, which wall they are on, and which way they swing.
- The window: width and how far it is from the nearest corner.
- Your bed frame at its outside edges, including the headboard.
Questions people ask
What are the dimensions of a 200 sq ft studio?
After a 40 sq ft bathroom, the 160 sq ft main room is about 12′ 8″ × 12′ 8″ if square, 11′ 4″ × 14′ 2″ in a standard shape (length 1.25 × width) and 10′ × 16′ if long (length 1.6 × width). For the standard shape: width = √(160 ÷ 1.25) = 11.31 ft, and length = 11.31 × 1.25 = 14.14 ft.
Can a queen bed fit in a 200 sq ft studio?
Yes, with a 48″ desk and a 32″ dresser and 30″ walkways, in a square or standard-shaped room. Not with a loveseat, in any shape, even with 24″ paths. And not in a long 10′ × 16′ room at all.
Can a 200 sq ft studio have a sofa?
A 60″ loveseat, if the bed is a twin. In a standard-shaped room it passes at standard clearances with a desk (Layout B) or a dresser; in a long room, with a dresser (Layout C). With a full bed, a loveseat and a desk need 24″ paths and a standard-shaped room. With a queen, it doesn’t fit.
Is there room for a dining table?
Barely. With a twin and a desk, a 30 × 30″ table passes only in the square room and only with 24″ paths. The table needs 32″ to pull out a chair at each end, clear of both door swings. At this size, the desk is your table.
Can you fit a coffee table?
Not even with a twin and a loveseat. The solver found no layout with the loveseat’s 36 × 20″ coffee table in any of the three shapes, even with 24″ paths.
