300 Sq Ft Studio Apartment Layouts: What Fits in Each Room Shape
Short answer
Fits A 300 sq ft studio fits a queen bed, a 68″ apartment sofa with a coffee table, a 48″ desk and a dresser, with 30″ walkways, whether the room is square, standard or long. The shape decides the dining table: only a square room also takes a 30″ table, between the two doors. A standard or long room needs 24″ paths for it.

What fits a 300 sq ft studio, by shape
Take 40 sq ft off for the bathroom and 260 sq ft is left. We ran five furniture sets through the Studio Solver in three room shapes, all with 30″ walkways.
| Furniture | Square 16′1″ × 16′1″ | Standard 14′5″ × 18′0″ | Long 12′9″ × 20′5″ |
|---|---|---|---|
| Full bed, loveseat, coffee table, desk, dresser | 3 layouts | 3 layouts | 3 layouts |
| Queen, 68″ sofa, coffee table, desk, dresser | 3 layouts | 3 layouts | 3 layouts |
| The same plus a 30″ dining table | 3 layouts | 24″ paths only | 24″ paths only |
| The same, with both sides of the bed open | 3 layouts | 24″ paths only | 24″ paths only |
| Queen, 84″ sofa, coffee table, desk, dresser, dining table | 24″ paths only | Doesn’t fit | 24″ paths only |
With 36″ walkways, no shape takes the dining table. Without it, the queen, 68″ sofa, coffee table, desk and dresser still fit the standard and long rooms (3 layouts each), and the square room gets 1.
3 layouts for a 300 sq ft studio, one per shape
Each room has a 32″ entrance door and a 30″ bathroom door on the bottom wall, a 60″ window centered on the top wall, and a one-wall kitchen on the right. Each holds a queen, a 68″ apartment sofa with a 42 × 22″ coffee table, a 48″ desk and a 32″ dresser, and passes every check at standard clearances. Layout A also has the 30″ dining table, since the square room is the only shape that takes one. Hatched areas are the clear space each check needs.
Layout A: Square room, everything against the walls
All checks pass
The bed is on the left wall with its head against it, and the dresser is in the top-left corner. The desk sits under the window, and the sofa backs onto the top wall in the top-right corner, facing the coffee table 16″ away. The dining table is on the bottom wall between the two doors, 3′ 2″ from the entrance door and 3′ 3″ from the bathroom door, so a chair fits at each end outside both door swings. The bed is 2′ 8″ from the entrance door swing.
Best for: eating at a real table. This is the only shape where a dining table passes with 30″ walkways.
The trade-off: the bed is the closest to the front door of the three plans.
Layout B: Standard room, floating sofa
All checks pass
The bed takes the top-left corner with its head on the left wall, and the desk sits right beside the window. The sofa has one arm against the left wall and floats 3′ 1″ off the bottom wall, with a walkway behind it. It faces the bed, with the coffee table 16″ in front. The dresser is on the right wall just above the kitchen counter. The bed is 9′ 11″ from the entrance door swing.
Best for: keeping the sitting area between the front door and the bed.
The trade-off: the entrance door opens into the walkway behind the sofa, and there is no dining table. With 30″ walkways, the solver finds no spot for one in this shape.
Layout C: Long room, sofa as a room divider
All checks pass
The bed takes the top-left corner with its head on the top wall, and the desk sits right beside the window. The sofa stands 3′ 0″ past the foot of the bed with its back to it and one arm against the left wall, facing the coffee table 16″ away. The dresser is on the right wall just above the 96″ kitchen counter. The bed is 10′ 8″ from the entrance door swing, the farthest of the three plans.
Best for: a sleeping end and a living end, with the back of the sofa as the line between them.
The trade-off: you walk in right beside the sitting area, since the coffee table is 1′ 8″ from the entrance door swing. There is no dining table here either.

Walking route from the door
The 34″ in front of a dresser is a 16″ open drawer plus 18″ to stand. The space to pull out a chair or open a drawer has to stay out of every door swing too. Unless the table says otherwise, only one side of the bed needs to be open.
Measure this first
- The main room wall to wall in two places, not counting the bathroom. At 300 sq ft, the shape changes what fits.
- The kitchen counter: its length, its depth, and how far it sits from each corner.
- Both doors: width, which wall they are on, which way they swing, and the wall between them if you want a dining table there.
- The window: width and how far it is from the nearest corner.
- Your bed frame and sofa at their outside edges, including arms and headboard.
Questions people ask
What are the dimensions of a 300 sq ft studio?
After a 40 sq ft bathroom, the 260 sq ft main room is about 16′ 1″ × 16′ 1″ if square, 14′ 5″ × 18′ 0″ in a standard shape (length 1.25 × width) and 12′ 9″ × 20′ 5″ if long (length 1.6 × width). For the standard shape: width = √(260 ÷ 1.25) = 14.42 ft, and length = 14.42 × 1.25 = 18.03 ft.
Can a queen bed fit in a 300 sq ft studio?
Yes. In all three shapes, a 64 × 84″ queen fits with a 68″ sofa, a coffee table, a desk and a dresser, with 30″ walkways. Add a 30″ dining table and only the square room still passes at 30″.
Can you fit a full-size sofa in a 300 sq ft studio?
Yes, if you skip the dining table. A queen, an 84″ sofa, a coffee table, a desk and a dresser get 3 layouts in every shape with 30″ walkways. Add the dining table and it passes only with 24″ paths, in the square and long rooms.
Can both sides of a queen bed stay open in 300 sq ft?
Yes. Without a dining table, every shape gets 3 layouts with 30″ walkways. With the dining table, only the square room does (3 layouts); the standard and long rooms need 24″ paths.
Where should the dining table go in a 300 sq ft studio?
In a square room, on the entrance wall between the two doors, as in Layout A. A 30″ table with 32″ for a chair at each end needs 94″ of wall clear of both door swings. The square room has 107″ between its doors; the standard and long rooms have 87″ and 67″, and with 30″ walkways the solver finds no other spot for the table in either.
