300 Sq Ft Studio Apartment Layouts: What Fits in Each Room Shape

Short answer

Fits A 300 sq ft studio fits a queen bed, a 68″ apartment sofa with a coffee table, a 48″ desk, a dresser and a 30″ dining table, with 30″ walkways, whether the room is square, standard or long. The shape decides the extras: with the whole set, a long room is the only one that also takes a full 84″ sofa, and a square room is the best for getting into the bed from both sides.

Each cell is the number of layouts the Studio Solver draws with 30″ walkways. “24″ paths only” means it passes only at the minimum level. Length = width × 1 (square), × 1.25 (standard) or × 1.6 (long). Sizes: full 58 × 79″, queen 64 × 84″, loveseat 60 × 34″, apartment sofa 68 × 34″, sofa 84 × 37″, desk 48 × 24″, dresser 32 × 18″, dining table 30 × 30″. The solver uses a 72″ kitchen counter in the square and standard rooms and 96″ in the long one.

With 36″ walkways, the queen, 68″ sofa and dining table still fit the standard room (2 layouts) and the long room (1). The square room has to drop the dining table, and then the solver finds 1 layout.

3 layouts for a 300 sq ft studio, one per shape

Each room has a 32″ entrance door and a 30″ bathroom door on the bottom wall, a 60″ window centered on the top wall, and a one-wall kitchen on the right. Each holds a queen, a 68″ apartment sofa with a 42 × 22″ coffee table, a 48″ desk, a 32″ dresser and a 30″ dining table, and passes every check at standard clearances. Hatched areas are the clear space each check needs.

Layout A. 300 sq ft studio, square shape, 16′ 1″ × 16′ 1″ main room, standard clearances. Drawn by the Studio Solver.

The bed sits in the top-left corner with its head on the left wall. The sofa backs onto the bottom wall between the two doors, facing into the room, with the coffee table 16″ in front. The dining table is on the left wall, the dresser on the top wall, and the desk on the right wall above the kitchen counter. The bed is 8′ 0″ from the entrance door swing.

Best for: an open middle with the sofa facing into it, and a dining spot of its own on the side wall.

The trade-off: the desk sits right above the end of the kitchen counter and 4′ 0″ from the window, so you work in the kitchen corner.

Layout B: Standard room, floating sofa

All checks pass

Layout B. 300 sq ft studio, standard shape, 14′ 5″ × 18′ 0″ main room, standard clearances. Drawn by the Studio Solver.

The bed takes the top-left corner with its head on the left wall. The sofa floats 2′ 6″ off the left wall with a walkway behind it, facing the coffee table, 16″ away. The desk sits beside the window, the dresser is on the right wall above the kitchen, and the dining table is on the bottom wall between the doors. The bed is 9′ 11″ from the entrance door swing.

Best for: keeping the bed farthest from the entrance of the three, with the sofa in its own zone.

The trade-off: the dining table sits between the two doors, so you eat right by the entrance.

Layout C: Long room, sitting area by the window

Layout C. 300 sq ft studio, long shape, 12′ 9″ × 20′ 5″ main room, standard clearances. Drawn by the Studio Solver.

The sofa sits against the left wall at the window end, with the coffee table 16″ in front and the desk under the window. The bed is in the middle of the left wall, the dresser is on the right wall above the 96″ kitchen counter, and the dining table is on the bottom wall between the doors. The bed is 4′ 10″ from the entrance door swing.

Best for: a sitting area at the window end of the room, away from the front door.

The trade-off: the bed sits mid-room, 3′ 7″ from the kitchen counter, and you walk past its foot to reach the sofa.

Measure this first

  • The main room wall to wall in two places, not counting the bathroom. At 300 sq ft, the shape changes what fits.
  • The kitchen counter: its length, its depth, and how far it sits from each corner.
  • Both doors: width, which wall they are on, and which way they swing.
  • The window: width and how far it is from the nearest corner.
  • Your bed frame and sofa at their outside edges, including arms and headboard.

Questions people ask

What are the dimensions of a 300 sq ft studio?

After a 40 sq ft bathroom, the 260 sq ft main room is about 16′ 1″ × 16′ 1″ if square, 14′ 5″ × 18′ 0″ in a standard shape (length 1.25 × width) and 12′ 9″ × 20′ 5″ if long (length 1.6 × width). For the standard shape: width = √(260 ÷ 1.25) = 14.42 ft, and length = 14.42 × 1.25 = 18.03 ft.

Can a queen bed fit in a 300 sq ft studio?

Yes. In all three shapes, a 64 × 84″ queen fits along with a 68″ sofa, a coffee table, a desk, a dresser and a 30″ dining table, with 30″ walkways.

Can you fit a full-size sofa in a 300 sq ft studio?

An 84″ sofa fits with the whole set only in the long room (1 layout with 30″ walkways). Drop the dining table and it fits the standard room too, with 3 layouts.

Can both sides of a queen bed stay open in 300 sq ft?

With the full set and 30″ walkways, yes in a square room (3 layouts) and a standard room (1 layout). A long room only manages it with 24″ paths.

Where should the dining table go in a 300 sq ft studio?

In two of the three plans above, the solver puts it on the entrance wall between the two doors, a stretch of wall the rest of the furniture doesn’t use. In the square room it moves to a side wall.
